Steering wheel removal and fitting

Post by dalmationman »

Decided to put the steering wheel on straight today.
Easy !
Mark up a reference point on the cowling. Undid the nut, pulled off the wheel, popped it back on.
Not quite right.
Did it again, got to the popping it back on part and it wouldn't and then the
steering column fell apart !.
One dismantled column and steering lock later, it went back on.

And the Point ?
If you undo the steering lock with the steering wheel nut undone, the column falls apart.
If you try and push it back together again with the steering lock back on, it won't go.
Good fun had by all.

Oh yes i had this, easily solved by cable strapping it tight at the bottom til the jobs done. Dont forget to take em off tho as its designed to break/seperate there in an accident, not that anyone intends to try it...
