headlight up grade!

and are slightly daunted by the idea of cutting wires and the like, i have just bought one of these poxy ebay link

it arrived today! the power boost may come from the uprated lamps supplied and i have absolutely no idea what the silver box does, haven't dismantled it yet! (if anyone knows lets hear) but the loom is the important part!

all you have to do is swap the plug on the headlamps for the ones on the looms. plug the original lamp plugs into the new loom. plugthe two relays into the loom and connect up the power! shouldn't take more than 15 mins!

i think brick werks were selling these for about £40 so by reckoning this is a bargain!

Just remember the supplied bulbs are illegal for road use

I wanted to do my kit (when I sold them) in a similar style, with the wiring plugs on the back of the lamps but I couldn't find headlamp plus and sockets at sensible prices to warrant being able to do it that way.

I take it with the kit you have the silver box is a relay or 2, and it needs a fresh power supply and a good earth?

its a crude inverter, a step up transformer, which increases the voltage, well the HID thing is anyway.
Have fitted a few, and they do seem to work, but mind your fusebox!

Your HID kits, do they do a high beam as well? or do you have to fit a seperate bulb? or isnt it needed?

Are you sure? the bulbs in the ebay kit are quoted as being 12v.

The HID ballast pack are no way crude, they step up the voltage to around 23kv for starting the bulb and 8kv for running.

The HID kit uses less power than standard bulbs, so actually safer on your fusebox.

Almost all manufacturers now use HID in one form or another, the kits I sell use the same technology.

The HID kits are available as a dip beam only, or as a dip/main kit.
The dip/main kit uses one bulb and a solenoid to physically move the bulb into a different position to achieve a main beam.
Works really well, and is instantainious. You can really tell the difference between the solenoid operated lamps and convetional bulbs as on mine I have the inners still as normal bulbs, when you flick to main beam the HID is instant, then the inners come on, then eventually get to full brightness. The effect is quite noticeable.
I really enjoy night driving with HID, you can see so much more, they are better in the rain.
