leaking windscreen

Post by scouse »

Have consulted the wiki but need to ask:-

I have had the bodywork repaired beneath the windscreen seal, and replace the seal with one from Just Kampers.

I have to park the van at an angle so rain will run towards either corner. After only a month in the rain water is getting in and leaking onto the footwells.

The water seems to be leaking from a shelf under the dash in the footwell. All I can think of is the seal is sub standard. The body work was finished to a high standard, and was fitted by a professional fitter.

Has anybody had problems with after market seals, and would it be wise to invest in a VW one. I bought the whole set for £80.
Also no sealant was used to fit the seal is this usual?

Thanks

Window seals on the later vans, `85 on I think, were fitted with sealant at the factory, sounds like thats what needs doing, `specially as you`ve had a repair, which may not be allowing the seal to be perfectly flat with the metalwork.
Keep it real.

Thanks for that

Mine is an 81 model. I think I will invest in an orginal and fit it with sealant.

I replaced my screen last year and used a genuine vag seal, here's a link to my post in the wiki (with part number):

My windscreen is now 100% watertight and I didn't use any sealant.
