t25 wiring probs

Post by Bee »

I'm trying to get two cigarette lighters working so there's some sort of power point in my t25. I think it's simple enough, but want to double check before i cause a fire...........

Image and yes i will be redoing the connections as they are terrible

the back of the panel holding the lighters in, wire a is attached to nothing, the red ones are coming off the back off the lighters. i'm a little concerned about the piece of wire bridging the back?
Image

A goes to the fuse box somewhere, B is the brown wire A and the wire that comes from the chock and both go to the ignition
Image

also, (sorry for the dark pic) I have a random brown wire coming from the second from the right fuse that appears to go nowhere. i think it's end is the cut off wire in the back of the van, how would i check this?

in advance, Many thanks for your time

ps/ sorry, i don't have a haynes for it yet

Hi Bee

A typical cigarette lighter socket in a van has a 10-15 amp fuse, therefore the most amount of power you will be able to use through a cigarette lighter socket will be in the 120-180 watt range. If you want to draw this much power from the cigarette lighter socket you will need to make sure the cable is up to the job.

For power demands above that you are best to connect the socket direct to the battery, making sure that that the cable, socket and the fuse are fit for purpose.
