1.6D conversion to 1.9TD Sourcing questions

Post by Posten »

Hi, i have a 1.6D 1982 LHD T25. The engine is clapped out and i need to get it changed. I can get someone to do the conversion for me, but need to source an engine first, in order to cut costs. I've been reading alot of excellent posts on this forum, but the whole thing is still a bit daunting.

It seems a 1.9TD is my best bet, but is it really that simple to go and get one out of a Passat or Peugot and stick it in?

Are there any good centres/people/garages selling these engines that someone could recommend and how much would i be looking to pay approximately? (i'm based in the north west)

Finally, i haven't opened up my exisitng engine as yet to examine damage, it might be that a recon short engine is all that's required. If so, would anyone know where i could pick one of these up?

As always, thanks very much in advance for any kind of response.
