Help! Backfire blown exhaust!

Post by amazingdave »

Hiya,

My van started being tricky to start a couple of weeks back, with the odd little backfire just as she started, then running like a pig until warm after which it runs perfectly normally all day even after 8 hours standing...

However today the backfire was 9/11 style and has blown the end off the previously good back box... A*se.

Any ideas whats causing my cold start pyrotechnics so i can remedy it before I (a)Do any more damage and (b)Get arrested under the prevention of terrorism act...

yep, I replaced the plugs, leads and cap just to be on the safe side, all sorted!

however welding the exhaust was a bit sketchy... the exhaust was obviously filled with a good bit of fuel from me starting it up repeatedly cos a big blue flame shot out of the tailpipe and nearly took out my eyebrows as soon as I started welding.
