headlamps

Post by Cruz »

The lamps on my early 83 van are like 2 tealights, very poor indeed. Was told upgrading to hella h4 lamps would improve my headlights before deciding whether to go down the "new wiring loom route".

Seen some for sale of fleabay, asked if they were hella h4 and he said

"they are all marked hella but i have noticed one is marked h4 and the others are not"

Will they all be H4?
Or do Hella do 2 different types?
Or does it just depend on the bulb inside and would they all take brighter halogen bulbs?

as far as i know....

early pre 84 ish had none H4..........and no stamp
you can vastly improve matters simply by putting H4 lamps in...

So as far as you can see these would improve my lighting?

talked to Mr Baxter and he said to pop H4's on before messing with a loom as it will increase the light, maybe sufficiently enough to not need the loom.....obviously it's all down to personal choice of how bright you want them

we put H4's in our old air cooled.....
and guess what...we could see!!
a really cheapo matt way is simply drive on fill beam....no one will flash, and mercs are still brighter

I remember when I had my bus for Germany had to change headlight to R/h ones find them one marked hella H4 and the other not so perhaps they're OK just make sure you take out those cover inside the headlight. You don't need them with modern light pubs, use long nose pliers and a bit of patient and hopefully they will improve.
If you want to upgrade the headlight wiring system its dead easy I've done it so you can. Did even put those blue pubs (ebay) 100 watts, 2 years now without problem. Have a look at my website you will see what I mean. Go to camper tech then headlight upgrade link

I think Voyageur refers to the alloy heat sheld ? deflector thing? in the frame, between the lamp and the lens ?
