relay question

hi
happy new year to all

i wondered if anyone here might know what the relay which is bolted to the rear drivers side of the engine bay may be for?
after trying all the tests in wiki it is this that seems to be causing my battery to drain overnight
any ideas graetly appreciated!

forgot to mention van starts fine with this relay disconnected, its a 86 1.6d

tell yer what, undo it and see if your battery still drains. then try all of the electricals in the van, if anything doesnt work, that`ll be it then, but the chances are the relay you metioned is the glowplug relay.

thanks for your advice, i have disconnected this relay and battery doesnt discharge, so must be the cause, however doubted it was glow plug relay as van starts fine with it disconnected.
i was wondering if it was anything to do with the split charge but i am having trouble following the wires as they dissappear into bundles!! and there is nothing obvious that doesnt seem to work!
i will have to try and investige more on next day off.......

If you replace the relay with a new one does it still discharge the battery ?

ie. is the relay faulty ?

i haven't tried this yet, only narrowed down the cause of the battery draining to this relay today.
