MPG I know it'sprobably been done to death ,BUT.

Post by dalmationman »

OK I know it will be an old topic.
But I am new so that's my excuse, and it affects us all,( both me being new and MPG).

So, on a 2L standard waterboxer in good order, running a Weber carb of which I have no idea of the spec, there you are blatting along to Dorset at 80MPH,

What do you get ?
Does 22MPG sound about right, or should I remove the Dalmation to improve the power to weight ratio and increase the MPG ?

Or does anyone have any other ideas apart from "Slow Down", or "buy a diesel"

If it's the 1.9DG motor (they didn't make a 2L water cooled iirc) then 2 things spring to mind.

Firstly 22MPG is very good at 80 MPH :)

Secondly, I wouldn't cruise at 80 MPH unless the motor is a recent genuine VAG replacement item, as, if it's typical mileage for it's age, it won't like being pushed like that for long before summat gives :(
Got a new van, but it's a 165bhp T4 [shock horror] Accurate LPG Station map here

Yep its a genuine replacement, and 1.9 watercooled petrol.
The only thing that "gave " was my wallet !

get the dalmation out front towing! if you want higher mileage. 22 sounds about right, quite good if your belting it.
