diff locks

Post by Ray »

Just had a quick look again at rear diff lock There has never been a servo on it since I got it and the actuator rod was present although I hadn't tested it to see if it worked. When I checked yesterday with a view to fitting an actuator the rod was sticking further out about an inch? It pushed in under spring pressure to about where it was before and came out again. Is this normal or is the shift fork off the coupling. Wet and rainy today so will have to wait for a better day to investigate. Just surprised to see this as OK last time I looked. BTW the previous owner said he had had a different gearbox fitted so maybe thats why the servo wasn't fitted perhaps it didnt work!

The behaviour of the actuator pin sounds to be all present and correct.... and working, not seized so you're definitely winning for starters!

If the cage and other components aren't there then you will need all of those to make it work.

What has been done to the vacuum supply and return at the moment? If they aren't kinked then you'll have a substantial vacuum loss in your system!

If you post up a picture I'm sure we'll be able to tell you what else is required to complete the unit.

Cheers
The mounting bracket is present and vacuum pipes are there, the rear ones just blocked off with a self tapper. I tried the new servo on the vacuum pipes and it worked fjne. I think I will just mount the servo (I have all the parts bolts pins etc) and see if it works. I just didn't think the actuator rod came out that far ie from your photos.
Thanks for you reply

There seem to be two different lengths of pin - some only come out a short distance, others further. Russel couldn't throw any light on it either....

Also, just a small point.

I'd say if you bare pin is sticking out, and you are not putting the actuator on just yet, I'd get under there and dob some grease over it, protect it from the elements a little - especially with our lovely salt covered roads at the moment!
