The most common failure is the speed sensors, they need checking with an oscilliscope to be 100% confident there ok this wheel show up any wheel bearing, sensor ring or sensor problems.
Does the light go out when started and then go out? and come back on when driven?
There is loads of stuff it can be, it may be best ands cheaper to take it to a pro.

If it goes out when started and then comes on when driven that is almost certianly a speed sensor/wheel bearing/speed sensor ring problem.

A relay problem normally makes the light come on with ignition come on and stay. How have the sensors been tested and was it just for resistance or for output.
If the light is on the abs is not supposed to work, its gone into safe mode.

They probably won't want to know, i think you would be best with a vw specialist.
Have you checked wheel bearings for play?
Were in the country are you there maybe someone on here that can help.
