LPG - very cold weather re-fuelling question

Post by ghost123uk »

Should probably ask Steve at Gasure - but I know how busy he is !!

Recently, during this cold weather, I notice that on removing the filler thingy, as well as the usual hiss and puff of LPG, I get a hissing and dripping of liquid LPG from my filler for about 10 to 20 seconds.

My guess this is caused by ice forming in the one way shut off valve ( caused by the pressure drop during filling ) stopping it from shutting off properly until it melts away.

what you said! normal!! just a word of advise, make sure you are not tocuhing anyting metal on the filler when you release it! not good beeing frozen to a pump in the cold!!

I wonder if this scenario is possible...

You release the filler and the cold weather, coupled with the cold caused by the release of pressure, creates the ice that stops the one way valve from closing. The liquid leaks from the valve as described in my first post.
However this causes the same change in pressure as before ( tho in the opposite direction ) causing a further decrease in temperature that prevents the ice from melting.

If this happened the whole tank could empty !!

I don't suppose it's likely, but I can't think of any thing you could do to prevent it if it did happen
