CONVERTING EARLY SLIDING DOOR TO LATE TYPE

Hi just wondering if anyone has replaced there early sliding door to a late one ? i have an 89 which i am cutting up & using donor parts for my 82 westy , have replaced all front suspension & brakes so far & now looking @ cutting out the side pannel with the runners & using the mint sliding door , coz i cant get a early door , any advice apreciated

How bad is your old door is it really that u/s? I have heard of 1 done but never saw it!

externally it just looks like the handles

i think on the old doors the handle also moves up

so prob all the locking system is different
Now running and fixing

They are totally different shapes up close, similar but different. The rear pillar is twisted to 45 degrees to avoid "bursting" in an accident. Dutch has done it now tho! I'll let him tell ya how it went - twas a big job!

Hi all,

I've just converted a late sliding door to fit my 82 panel van. I couldn't find any early doors in good condition within 100 miles so decided to give it a go. It all went pretty easy and is now back on the van.
