My Van Work In Progress

Post by Devs »

Not that anyone will be interested but i'm proud of her so far so wanted to share my work so far

Still very much a WIP at the mo

these pics were taken when i went to ireland in her back in august.

has had a 2.1 injection engine transplant courtesy of my own craftsmanship, got me to ireland and back so am well chuffed! (1,500 miles)

spent most of the spring weekends straightening the body work, as had creases and dings all over the place, and the occasional hole. But now body work and chasis is in A1 condition. and so far sprayed in a high build primer. I ran out of time before the ireland trip to finish the painting, so is my plan to get crimbo out of the way and then complete that.

Has a set of granada scorpio 5 spoke alloys as they look a bit more attractive than the 14" steels that were on it, and also a set of scorpio leather front seats.

Rear has a fair bit of storage all built from scratch by me, along with a sink and tap that has running water supplied via a 12v sump pump. the rear bench seat again was made from scratch, and folds out into just short of a kingsized dimension bed, we had 6 people on the bed at one point at bugjam so very comfy!

Still to come, now ireland is out of the way and i don't need to get her on and off the ferry, she is getting slammed gonna go for an 60-80mm drop all round. Finish off the furnishings inside and get a few little trick bits and pieces thrown in here and there, and then finish the exterior.

here are a few pics so far

So who was in the front driving then

Gonna slam it now..

What a crying shame, hoped you weren't going to say that, looks so good on that beach, perfect height, noble, now to be turned into a pathetic wimp thing - ah well, no accounting for taste, so good up till now...

mines lowered (55 or 80?) and goes on/off ferry no problem :D

corners loads better than a stock one too

it's your motor...your taste is all that matters :D

HI Dev. It shows that you have put a lot of work into the van, at the mo I have been spending any spare time I have filling, sanding, filling, sanding,on & on & on & on trying to get mine up together for a spray job next year. To be honest sometimes I feel like it's never ending (and my vans in good nick) so to see you doing so much is a real good push. Cant wait to see the finished item. Keep it up, looking great. Sherlock P.S I am looking for some alloy but dont want to break the bank, I noticed a few sets of wheels like yours on fleebay do they just bolt on ( I have no idea as to what will or wont fit) cheers
Sherlock.

cheers for all the comments peeps.

I had never touched a tin of filler or a spray gun and had only done a couple of oil changes and general engine service, so i am happy with the work and the results so far.

The final colour is going to be VW turkis green, have began colour coding the interior, am waiting for the warmer weather in spring as have no oven to bake her, i know it will not be a perfect finish but i don't wanna get this far and then send it off to someone else to finish it.

As for the lowering, i'm still not sure whether i should or not, part of me does as i like the look, but i do not want to limit myself to staying on tarmac, if you saw the dirt track she went down here Image
you would be convinced it was a syncro

the wheels are simple enough, you will just require an extended set of studs for the rears, i got a set from Brickwerks for £20. the wheels cost me £40 from flea bay plus rubber so not a bad investment.

Sherlock I feel for you, keep at it mate, honestly there wasa few days i nearly threw in the towel as i thought this is never gonna get finished. Specially when bug jam was a 7 day countdown as i went to ireland 3 days after meaning she had to be ready for then! once the primer went on i have noticed a few high spots that need to be taken back before the final jacket is applied. will be good to see some progress if you have any pics fella
