On my 2.1 there is some kind of a sensor that plugs into the air filter housing. You have to unplug it to get the cover off. When I forgot to plug this back in again, the van would start up, then die right away. As soon as I plugged it back in again everything was fine. Maybe someone else knows more about this.

Intake Air temperature switch?

The first thing anyone one should do with such a problem, IMHO, is to go through each and every connector in the engine sub-harness, remove the plugs, clean them carefully and re-plug them in.

then if there is no improvement, I have found faults by wiggling and gently pulling each wire in turn as the engine is idling or running with a jammed throttle if no idle and listening for a change in engine tone/or idle speed.

The wiring to the T2 temp sensor can be tested in this way, as has been known to crack, so any loose wires that flex should be wiggled sytematically - sounds crude, but hey, you've got to start simple unless you have a battery of test-gear and diagnostic information at your fingertips, which most don't

Then the multiple earths on the engine and the flitch pane's should also be re-made if problems continue - sure won't do any harm!

Thanks eveyone, the wires coming out of the idle stabilistation thing have been cut into at some point and the conection looked a bit naf, so I have changed it and the van ticks over, it has to be warm first tho. The automatic choke is not comming on but I can live with that for now.
The wires have been cut because of the Webber Alpher ECU thats been put on, more trouble then its worth  .
Thanks Again

Well, now he tells us!!!!

Sounds more like a sensor/map issue then, that a whole different ball game to a standard setup...

I could be interested in the alpha if its going to come off? I might even have a DJ ECU available...

Thanks but I will be keeping the Webber ECU if you don't ask you don't get, thanks for the offer tho.
Thanks for your help in solving the problem.

Hi,

I just acquired this van from Bugger It, it was only running on three cylinders due to a broken wire to number 4 injector, its now running a lot better :D

It is running Weber Alpha throttle body and ECU and supposedly showed 160bhp on a rolling road (unconfirmed by documentation) so must have some other mods to get anywhere near this. Does anybody have any info on what was done to the engine as I understand it was quite well known at the time it was done ??

Thanks

Barrie

Yes, thats a fair bit for 2.1 DJ, but then maybe it showed 133.3 at the wheels and someone applied an exagerrated transmission loss of 20% to it, Bingo, 160 HP at the flywheel :?:

Old trick!

I agree its very easy to fudge rolling road figures, fortunately a friend of mine has a new 4 wheel drive road down here at Thruxton which measures the losses and corrects for ambient temperature, atmospheric pressure etc to give a true and repeatable reading. I'll get it on there sometime soon but would like to find out what's in the engine beforehand.

Had problem with my 2.1 DJ cutting out
Drive along nice and smooth. hit a few bumps, every thing dead. No ign light ,no radio, and if it was dark no head lights only side lights.
Took me a week to realise it was my KEY RING, to heavy, hit a bump and turn the ignition off

Health has now stopped me camping Etc.
