Hi Maxi, original Carat alloys where 14" mate.

Check out one of the on-line tyre size calculators to decide on what rolling diameter you will end up with for a given size of rim and tyre profile. Changed mine to 215/60 x 16", gives approx. 7% bigger diameter so the gearing is raised slightly so dropping the revs. Speedo now reads correct as well, checked with GPS :)

Don`t forget the load rating of the tyres as well, 97 minimum according to the VW handbook, mine are 99 index. Check out Camskill for cheap tyres online, free delivery for quantities. Recommended.
Keep it real.

The ones I flogged last week were genuine VW Carat wheels, and they were definitely 6J x 14" ET30

Baxter reckons not, I`m sure I read somewhere recently from him that they where actually a bit higher than normal to cope with all the extra weight :)

Mine did, dropped it with -40mm Jamex kit (didn`t measure it before and after but Baxter reckons they go down more than that) then slightly bigger overall wheels and tyres. Looks good now. Check out the pics on Brickyard here, grey/white roof westy near the bottom of the page. I reckon it`s settled a little now it`s done 500 miles with `em on. No clearance issues though. :)
