Eberspacher fitting guide?!
I've recently got my hands on a eberspacher D1l & despite searching for through the numerous threads & links on here I still have a couple of questions on these.
1. Some of the fitting guides show a seperate tank for the fuel. I'd like to use the main tank as the idea of waving a diesel nozzle inside the vehicle doesn't really sound good & filling one tank is enough to remember. Is it possible to draw direct from the fuel line in the engine bay? Before or after the filter? Is the fuel line a sufficient size to supply to the engine & Eber?!
2. Do I need a leisure battery? I've heard that Ebers can be pretty heavy on the battery or will the standard battery be okay for an overnight stop with a few hours of Eber use?
If I'm not the only one who can't find this info, I'd be happy to write a detailed guide with photos for club use, although not technically adept to create any sort of page from it (just got the crayon off the screen from my ventures with photoshop!)
Help/advice/flaming all welcome. Thanks in advance.

Ive just got my eber as well! Hooray no more shivering nights for me. I'm planning to plumb mine into the fuel line, but dont intend to use the eber as well as the engine(thats why you have a fan heater
). Id imagine the fuel supply would be plenty tho considerin the eber only uses a sparrows wee worth of fuel an hour.
Ive got 2 lesure batteries on my van, is always worth having, unless that is you like pushing ur van after u fall asleep in the chair wit everythin switched on.
My question is tho, where does every1 fit their ebers? ive tried in the seat box but its too big(D1lc also) is too big to have on the floor. so where des every1 else fit theirs??

''2 leisure batteries''? Most vans have 1 vehicle battery & 1 leisure battery.
The only way these batteries are connected is via a split charge relay so that when the engine is running both batteries are being charged at the same time.
Apart from the above relay the batteries are not connected so that if you flatten your leisure battery the vehicle battery will still be charged up & ready to start the vehicle.

Yep u read right. I have 2 lesure batteries AND my van battery. 1 lesure battery in the passenger side box and the other is a monster bad boy battery
(looks like it belongs on a milk float) under my sink(non std interior). Batterys last for up to five days if i dont turn the fridge on. I also have a generator fitted in my trailer if they do flatten, oh an i forgot about my solar panel
An like bowton my lesure electrics are completely seperate from van electrics apart from the split charge relay.
BAK TO MY SPAKKER
Just been out in my cold van
looked at the passenger footwell fitment. towards the front of the van im concerned about it getting bashed by feet, an at the front base of the seat box it looks like could be a bit tight to fit the exhaust
Really need to get this fitted as im sleepin in the van more an more, an its gettin colder an colder. Any1 got any other ideas or can go into a little more detail?

I may have to use the eber whilst on the move as the front heater doesn't reach the rear & don't want to buy a floor duct/rear heater unit as well. The passengers in the back may well kick up at having to climb into sleeping bags to stay warm on long winter journeys, as they've done in the past!
Bendyknees - It sounds as though you could do with losing the milk float battery to create some space! Do you ever use enough juice to justify carrying such a heavy & big battery? I'm sure it could be fitted in the engine bay (depending on what engine you have) but would require some long ducting to come back into the van.

The big battery is tucked away in a cupboard that is of no use for anything else. Its not that i use a massive ammount of power (well ma washing machine takes a fair wack
)but i dont move the van sometimes for a week and is just easier to have an extra battery.
Ive got my eber fitted to the right of my engine cover so it exhauts into the wheel arch. Is out the way, and you cant hear it running as the matress+board is a good insulator

plumb it into your diesel line, you wont lose power as the eber only uses a 1/4 of a litre of diesel in 24 hrs. and yes they are heavy on the battery. but only until they are burning(about 1 minute). start your eber with the engine running(do you have a split charger?) then when its blowing warm turn the engine off, it will run forever.

I don't have a split cahrger yet, so will follow your advice Weazlechin, until I have the time & money to fit a leisure battery.
Westy, I've read the Wiki section & it was useful for the cable length info, but no current/wattage information on there.
I'll be getting the drill out this afternoon!!!
Thanks all for your help & advice.
I'll be taking photographs throughout & happy to share them if anyone wants, pm me in about a week when I've finished it!
Thanks again to all of you for your help.
