'For owners and lovers of VW T25(T3) Vans', is this site's sub-heading.
I was a newcomer to this world for a long time & was quite confused. It also confused my interface with VW parts dealers etc. My understanding now is this - T3 is correct, as shorthand for Transporter 3 - but T25 is WRONG! It should be TYPE 25. Or nothing!

t25 & type25 are both silly nonsense
ok you take the party line - are you from a communist state?
I know I've got a type 2.
The VAG dealer who supplied my van filled in the following details in the service schedule booklet - 'vehicle id no' - 25 *******, and 'type' - 25200B1 .........
Thus I'm claiming that 'type 25' is allowable ....

gsf call em type 25
gasure certs call them the same. tho Steve gives yopu the choice
just kampers call em t25
both these huge firms talk silly nonsence
19*insert two numbers here* vw transporter is the correct term, followed by the body type, eg panel, carravelle etc
t3 is german slang, the same as t25/ type 25 is here
no one gave a pooh in 2002, till german e bay and the 19*insert two numbers here* vw transporter became trendy and money to be made

SB + the BrickYard massive boys will toast you'w ass for use of t25
sumfink to do with pickups + poss DOKA's been technically t24's ! See info @ Brick-Yard !
Matt .. whatever you call em the modern camper boys will ignore you + the Bay- Splits will sneer
We' is in a minority group + should enjoy the status as water cooled jesse's
Some of the detractors will even diss' a T3 even if early Aircooled, which i found strange, as the A/C was the holy grail of membership
I just want a camper m8, thats all ! [and enjoy the quirky driving position, which puts you in front of the front wheels !.. S'like a fairground ride

oh and whilst we are at in there is no such thing as a beetle, cept that new thing
there are all type 1's so ner
Methinks Matthew from Mickleover is mixed up over when VW first used the term 'Beetle' in their advertising. I have a VW handbook for a 1962
VW 1200 Sedan & the word Beetle is nowhere to be found. This situation of not recognising the term Beetle continued for another six years.
Volkswagen first used the term Beetle in their brochures in mid 1968 when the available models were 1200, 1300, 1500, 1500 semi-automatic & of course the Cabriolet. The Beetle name was used extensively during the early 70s when VW had a brilliant advertising campaign. One of the slogans was ''Ugly is only skin deep''.

The Volkswagen Type 1, more commonly known as the Beetle, Fusca, Coccinelle, Vocho, Bug, Volky or Käfer (German), Escarabajo(beetle) in (Spanish) is an economy car produced by the German automaker Volkswagen from 1938 until 2003. Although the names "Beetle" and "Bug" were quickly adopted by the public, it was not until August of 1967 that VW themselves began using the name Beetle in marketing materials. It had previously been known only as either the "Type I" or as the 1200 (twelve-hundred), 1300 (thirteen-hundred) or 1500 (fifteen-hundred), which had been the names under which the vehicle was marketed in Europe prior to 1967; the numbers denoted the vehicle's engine size in cubic centimetres. In 1998, many years after the original model had been dropped from the lineup in most of the world (it continued in Mexico and a handful of other countries until 2003) VW introduced a "New Beetle" (built on a Volkswagen Golf platform), bearing a strong resemblance to the original.
Aha, but Stan, you miss the point, this is a pedantic thread......
it was only marketed as the "beetle"
it was called the type 1
Ford has used "tranny" in its blurb
but its still a Transit..........
( i made the last bit up but refuse to admit that I'm ever ever ever wrong )
