Prob something in the exhaust loose, or the tin shrouds under the engine

Greetings to everybody out there this is my first post so please be gentle with me.
I have just purchased a 1990 Lhd 1.6turbo diesel (brand new engine) Carthago Malibu semi high pop top but this model is not mentioned on any of the pages that i have read on this forum, and boy have i read some pages. Even before i registered i solved many of my newbie problems/how does this work by trawling through the info, also realised there is a bunch of raving loonies sorry good old boys out there.When i have worked out how to put pictures on with me post i will do so. By the way whats that horrible rattly noise in the back when you start the thing up. Speak to you all again soon. By the way the wife and kids have already been dragged along for a weekend away thats when we found out what worked and what didnt probaly not the best way to do things. Cheers

I find that's usually the wife complaining about the cupboard latch & gas heater I haven't fixed!

I have a Carthago Camper.
1985 1.6TD (4 speed LHD). My engine's certainly not new though! Regular pop-top.

Previously owned by a Dutch mechanic who took his kids fishing in it. Nice fellow, did all the work on it himself. As such I have no service history & a feeling that he's done some minor mods here & there. Bought it on the approval of my Father-in-Law, who was so impressed with the chassis & engine that he was going to buy it if I wasn't.

I've got a Reimo that is a very similar design (I think) to the Carthago. It's a 'Primus' and roof spares are blinking impossible to come by. Even Reimo just drop their heads, walk away muttering and pretend they didn't hear me if I mention roof spares to them!

Yes, DM, that is a water tank filler. The tank is slung under the van, just inboard of the sliding door. If you look closely you can just see the orange drain tap behind the front wheel.

does it still look like that or have alterations (wanted and unwanted) taken place. Do you have one or two water tanks underneath, does your liesure battery charge up when you are hooked up to the mains.

No alterations yet, it's just the only pic I've got of it right now.

I've not had much time to rip it apart just yet. Doing Teacher training this year, so I'm organising the list of jobs to do on it, with a view to actually doing them during spring/summer.

Therefore the Van looks the same now, only dirtier!

I only have the one waste water tank slung underneath on one side. The fresh water is in a portable tank in the bottom of the wardrobe, which has an electric pump.

I intend to add a fresh water tank under the other side of the Van to provide a bit more capacity. Have to save up for the bits first...

There is a unit that looks like it connects to the battery when on mains hookup, but have not had the opportunity to test that. The battery charges up OK when driving, that I do know.
