Digijet fuel injection onto DG?
I have a complete Digijet fuel injection system including loom, thermostat housing etc. But do require fuel pump and fuel tank(?).
I was wondering if it would be just a case of plug and play if used on a DG. If so, would there be any benefit over the carb set up? My carb has 140k under it's belt and is starting to become unreliable, thus the reason to consider this conversion.

Would need the fuel pump as it relies on good pressure.. might be ok with the tank..
But.. its a lot of hassle for little gain and the electronics could give more trouble... IMHO.. not worth the hassle unless you like hassle...
The DG is pretty simple so only basic things could be at fault..
Whats the problem?

Point accepted TMT. Thanks!
Not starting at all, it's been a gradual thing from lumpy running to cutting out after 10-15 seconds from cold start to as I say, nothing.
I've checked the carb/manifold heater and have purchased a new choke pull down.
Incidently, it had a phase of running smoothly at high revs, but cut out at anything but full throttle, could this be more electrical based, say the coil?

You have to start at basics...
Is fuel getting through to the carb..
Is there a spark
is the timing correct
has the engine got compression.. (prob not an issue if was running well before and not)
Could be the stop solenoid on the carb.. this would not let it run unless lots of RPM and never idle...
I might go for that as a start...... but do all the checks to ensure you are not peeing into the wind....

Did the checks but, here's the thing. If I prime the carb with a cap full of fuel, it will run for until that fuel is spent.
Should the fuel pump, pump fuel into the empty float chamber whilst you are cranking over? It doesn't squirt any fuel out if, the pipe form the pump to the carb is disconnected and engine cranked.

sounding like either the fuel pump con rod or the pump itself.....
the pump should pump fuel when cranking the engine, its mechanical.
also check the filter ( there should only be one, under the sill near to the tank outlet.....)

Thanks Mocki! I suspected it could possibly be either one of those things, but need van for weekend (house move) so, threw caution to the wind and ordered both.
BTW, I'm suprised that the push rod with it's hardened tips wear out
? It has done 140k and years longer than VW expected though!
I'll let you know how it goes...

Thought I'd try the push rod first with the old pump... Bingo!
The difference between old and new one being only 1.1mm (not taking into acount the wear on the pump), so little. Can take the pump back as it was the wrong one supplied anyway.
Thanks for your posts Mocki & TMT, much appreciated!!

you are more than welcome...... its what this place is about. sharing experience and knowledge...... its what used to be known as ' the 80-90 thing'
thank you BTW for reporting back, all to often we get these diagnostic challenges but never hear the outcome , good or bad!
