Cubby hole/battery cover

These 'orrible things were over my offside battery compartment and nearside cubbyhole-behind-the seat.

They appear to be made of fibreglass and have been hacked off something else, or (badly) cut to fit the cubby and battery area. They have a hole in the centre for an old ashtray, one of which is missing and part of some sort of clasp that doesn't match up with anything on the battery container, or cubby.

Any idea what the proper covers are supposed to look like?

I've seen a black plastic battery cover on JK, but not one that actually covers the hole of the nearside cubby.

Hmmm.

Maybe there's not meant to be a cover at all...

My bus has a cover each side, made of steel and fitted to the box with hinges at the seat end. All original..

You could make hinged covers out of thin plywood cut to size & trimmed with thin carpet type stuff to match the interior of your van.

i made mine out of sheet metal, a vice. a rubber malet and a welder. only took an hour. they are attached with velcro.

Looks like a hacked up dash tidy... Mine has hinged metal covers, sure you should be able to knock something up from Plywood, either hinge um or fit a strip around the inside so they just drop on and locate.

these seem to be fitted to devon minibuses at conversion time.a pair sold for just under 20£ on flea bay the other week!
on factory caravelles with the fitted steel covers you have to slide the seat forward to lift the cover and i am sure the dont fit with swivel seat bases unless you cut the cover!

Thanks Billy, The passenger seat is a swivel. I think I'll just get the battery cover from JK. It's not that important that the cubby be covered.
