I have a european 2 pin mains socket in my westy. Can I just use a regular UK adapter to plug in my UK appliances? Also mine doesn't seem to have a circuit breaker installed. Is this something I should install? I'm considering wiring a UK socket in place of the Euro one with a circuit breaker built in (the kind you might have in your garage. Would this work?

The circuit breaker should be below your 2 pin socket. I've got a West, I just use a travel adapter in the plug socket. A normal hook up cable will fit the outside connection.
The circuit breaker has flip switch bar type thing on it

mine had some fuses. in the middle of the cupboards, behind the cooker, but infront of the ones above the bed, there was a plastic disc in the hardboard side panel...look behind this, if you have one.

a circuit breaker is sensible although I would also put in an RCD. I know some people don't like them saying they give nuisance trips but I'd rather have one of them than electrocute somebody.
Although you are looking at electrics in a vehicle it is still a domestic electrician that you need. Some may be reluctant to look at a van but it is their area. I am sure there are enough in S London for you to find one willing to work on a van.
oh, and having read you a bit more fully. It is easy to fit your own electrics BUT if you have any doubts - don't. Mains electricity is lethal. If you get it wrong you or somebody else could die.

Gifftopher.................contact Headley18 on here, top mobile T25 mechanic. Sorted out my Electrics on the Westy, fitted a new Trip as the old original one kept tripping after about 10 hours use.
dbroada, thanks for the slightly morbid but none the less sound advise. Will be looking for someone to check it over for me and install the relevent safety bits.

of course, whilst it seems that no two westfalias are the same, it could be that yours has a fuse where mine did

Don't buy an RCD unit from a caravan/camping shop because you'll pay silly money. Try Screwfix Direct where a top quality MK brand RCD unit
