Fridge full of warm beer......

Hi total newbee here, I have a water cooled T25 1985 that I got at the end of the summer, my big regret is that I didnt get it at the begining of the summer as I have had masses of fun and nights away in it. The van drives like a dream (much better than my old bay) but why am I spending what seems like six hrs groveling about on my back trying to get the fridge started. At the end of this challenge (when it's lit) im so stressed out I end up drinking all the beer that was heading for the fridge anyway. Any tips would be great....apart from the ones telling me to forget the fridge and head off to the pub.

Thanks for getting back to me Old one. Just took a look outside in the thick fog and the fridge is a Electrlux. Im not sure if it has any other markings on it. The fridge works great when it's up and running, but getting it going is a pain. Is this the norn with these ? P.S details have been updated. Cheers again

Usually a silver label in top left inside the fridge, also on a plate on the top (hard to see without taking out the fridge)

Fridges can be hard to light, there was amod. on some camper fridges, something to do with the air-pump start, whatever that is. mine can take a while to start when it`s been off for a while, which is common. Not 6 hrs though

maybe 30 seconds.

May be worth taking the fridge out, not usually a hard job, and clean out the flue and burner chamber, as it`s probably full of dust, dirt, carbon, etc etc.

OK maybe I was a bit OTT with 6 hrs but a good 15-20 mins. I think you may have a point when you say a take out and clean up job may be the answer. Never done this before but should be ok. Thanks for getting back to me on this................wot a friendly bunch. Cheers

If your fridge has a dial that has a 3, 2, 1 and an off position turn the dial to the number 3 (biggest flame setting) and push the dial in for 15 seconds before trying to press the starter.

This will push any air through the pipes and ensure that when you try starting it there is sufficient gas to provide a flame.

Then once lit keep holding the dial in for another 5-10 seconds to get the thermocouple thingy good and hot to make sure that it stays lit.

Bobs your uncle.

I'd try that before you take the fridge out.

There is a bit of a knack to starting them. Our starts pretty much straight away every time but before I knew the above I was in the same boat as you.

yep me to was clicking away for a good 5-10mins before it would fire up then someone told me to hold in for 15-20 secs and then click almost straight away now everytime good advice above try this before tking it out

Put really cold beer in the fridge... stays cold for a day or two without even having the fridge on

Cheers to one and all for advise, just been out to give the 15-20 second button trick a spin and sadly no joy. It looks like a take out job at some point. Thanks again old one I will give you a shout when I get it out and find out what model it is. Also cheers purplechugster for the handy tip you have a good point, however im thinking of freezing the beer with a stick in it to make lager lollies. If this doesnt work I may just blaze the van, claim on insurance and buy an ice cream van. It's gotta be worth a go. Thanks all

The reason you were asked to fill in your profile was so's the nearest folk to you could come round and check wether the temp of your beer was affected by temperature.!!

Appart from the saga of fridges, I used to find that when the gas was getting low it was harder tpo light, there is a basic checklist to work to and when running right are ok,

Also as the weather is now colder if your using butane it will be harder to light it will not be vapourising as it would in warmer weather.

dont attempt to start fridge until you have been parked for about 10 minutes-works for me--
