T4 syncro

Post by klegnuts »

Can I ask if any one knows what a 1994 T4 syncro caravelle with a 2.5 petrol engine is worth,in pretty good nick but highish mileage? Are they as good of road as the T25,and are the parts hard to get hold of?Do they have a viscous coupling and the same set up as the T25,I am comletely in the dark?Cheers.

Yes they have a VC, but at the back of course, being FWD.

No they are not as good off-road, are OK can be made a bit better but do not have a very low crawler gear, or underbody protection or difflocks (AFAIK). Not sure how good the lock is either, lock is pretty good to exellent on the T25 for a 4WD vehicle. They also don't have a near 50/50 weight distribution.

If thats an AAB engine, then they can do cambelts in and are not easy to get hold of, so many have been snapped up already!

My T4 syncro has a rear difflock!
The fuel tank is rather vulnerable being slung underneath, turning lock seems OK but not as good as the T3.
The T4 syncro should be considered as just a T4 with four wheel drive whereas the T3 syncro is a 'special' prepared by Steyr-Puch.
I would imagine the petrol versions are a little thirsty.
I believe Thomas Cowley has recently bought a 2.5l petrol syncro Caravelle - try BusGoofs.

PS If you really want a T4 syncro go for a post 1996 with an ACV diesel engine - turbo/intercooler, 102BHP and rear disc brakes.

That sounds quality advice...
