(Distilled from jumbled up post elsewhere...)
Temp gauge recently stopped responding. Light flashes on start-up as per usual. Zero movement of needle on dial, even when warmed up. Battery is suspect, engine is shot, but lights etc work fine. Seems to be a bit of a leak in the cooling system: no visible drips so ?going into engine?
Would like to get this sussed before engine swap. Can anyone please give me some pointers. I've checked the Wiki, also Haynes but the latter doesn't do diesel. I think I've located the sensor, where a coolant hose connects with the middle of the engine. Does that sound correct, and can I start mucking about with grounding it, sending 12V through it etc???
And are there other likely causes, other than sensor failure?
Grateful for any help!
