Really dumb question...

Post by littlepixel »

Apologies in advance.
I'm filling in the V55/5 form to get my import Westy registered and cannot find the engine number anywhere. It's an Aircooled 2.0 litre. Any clues as to it's whereabouts?

It should be right smack bang in the middle of the engine on top. Sort of to the right and up of the distributor and below the airbox. You can't miss it unless it's been ground off.

Can be ''CV'' if it's had a genuine VW replacement engine at some time.
My 1980 a/c van had a 1988 CV unleaded petrol engine. :)

Mocki, despite being logged on I can't follow the link put up by Bennwedge - I just get access denied etc. :( Is there some 'Top Secret'
info on that part of the wiki?

Delete the last bit of the link so it goes to the main wiki page; then go to the Aircooled link and you should get to the picture that way...

Just a thought, does anyone check the serial numbers on vehicles BEFORE they hand over their cash?

So I looked and it starts with 'CU' but then there's no numbers at all after it—just space. The numbers WOULD be recessed if there were any and
there's no evidence of grinding so I don't think they've been removed - more that they've never been on there in the first place. It's a little odd that there's no number—I guess I'll just put 'not known' on the form.
