when autoglass did your screen did tou see the state of your metal under the rubber? prob they didn't tell you it was rotten have a poke about under the rubber with a screwdriver to see extent of corrosion if present

i was baffled for ages and would not believe that mine was rusted as ot all looked solid from the out side only when the glass is removed did we spot a pin hole

water is feed down from top of seal to bottom where it seeps through

Luckily mine ain't got this issue - but...

Is there a simple cure - like silicone sealer or summat, or is it windscreen out and get the metal fixed by a pro ?

( I am really asking on behalf of Alex and anyone reading this in the future )

silcone could prob work

but would be best to take out glass and refit with silicone

'Thin rubber solution' worked for me - for about 6 months anyway... it's all wet again now!

Mine was suffering from this problem quite badly, both footwells would fill up following heavy rain. I tried a tube of windscreen leak stop but that made little difference. I decided the only solution was to give in and fit a new seal. They are still available from VAG under the part number 251845121 at £31. I thought I might aswell replace the screen at the same time due to a couple of chips, I managed to source one from an independent screen fitter for £70 inc VAT.
My windscreen frame was in pretty good order with only minimal rust on the seam edges on the bottom corner, this was enough though to distort the seal and let the water in. I ground the rust back treated it then gave the windscreen frame a few coats of fresh paint.
The new screen was easy to fit using the rope trick and a couple of helpers. My footwells are always bone dry now even after the heaviest downpours.

New seal is the only solution long-term and is better done sooner rather than later as the rust causing the problem will only get worse.

My VWT25 (c reg) has developed a curious leak
Whenever it rains heavily I find water has collected in the metal recesses at either side of the front dash (you see the recesses when you open the front doors). I've checked the seals of the windscreen (which was recently put in by autoglass) and the seal seems fine,..... but the leak still persists...Can anyone suggest where the water may be getting in...??

My van has an annoying leak into the passenger footwell which it didn't have before Autoglass replaced the windscreen. Roughly speaking the saga went like this - new windsreen (fitter comments on good condition of metal along bottom edge ) water on mat, re-seal lower half of w/s - water on mat, re-seal all w/s - seems ok.
Went out to van 15 minutes ago, small amount of water on mat BUT! lifted mat & it's all wet across the passenger footwell. Can't find any sign of a leak inside windscreen so must look again in daylight. Anyone any ideas because it shouldn't (ha!ha!) be the windscreen this time? Our friends at Autoglass don't seem particularly competent but I may have to go back yet again to see if they can attempt to rectify the problem.

John, checked under centre of dash etc but no sign of any water on or under mat in that area. Small pool of water last night was close to edge of mat on passenger side. Water under mat was on n/s but had spread across footwell.

Have checked seal around windscreen & it seems fine. Van has not been run for 8 days (ie: since New Brighton meet) but has been plenty rain during last week. Coolant level seems constant on/just below upper mark on reservoir. If there was a leak from passenger door/window seals would it just leak into step area or could it get into the footwell? Still looking for clues.
