At the rear of the sliding door is a catch below the hinge that locks in 2 stages, the 1st stage catches the door and the second stage pulls it into line with the vehicle side - On my 1988 T25 Caravelle after a few miles the catch "unlocks" to the 1st stage - you can see the door no longer aligns with the side of the vehicle but sticks out a bit... and the kids get a chill!
Any ideas what is wrong - can this be adjusted or is ti time to find a less worn one and change it?
Just checked the manual, the lock you are talking about is called the "central lock" which confused me a bit, I thought it was talking about central locking!
Anyway, looks like that lock is not adjustable, it just screws on and can be removed/replaced without taking the door off which is a big bonus. All other door hanging and locking parts have multi-adjusments, but the one you describe doesn`t
Check new price from VW first, you may be surprised ! If you get a second-hand one then you could be buying the saem/worse. Try taking the lock out first as it`s an easy job, and thoroughly clean it with contact cleaner/brake cleaner and re-lube it with light oil and try it again.
Does the door shut easily or do you have to shove it in hard to latch at the rear? It could be down to door adjustment on its hinges and other locking parts, the book runs to a few pages on how to align the door correctly, and almost eveything is adjustable, it does say it`s a two-man job as well, which I can believe.
