Passenger seat wobbles on swivel base

Post by Cruz »

On the van passenger seat I have an original VW swivel base but the seat wobbles. The nuts are tight as but the base surround wobbles like a good un which the wife isn't happy about. The seat is solid as a rock on the swivel base too so it's not the seat that's the problem.

I took the seat off to have a look. And on the fixed circular centre piece it has little metal anti-friction runners on it which seem in good fettle

Now when i lift the entire swivel base up there are 4 holes. Should these have anything in them like rubber grommets? It looks to me like they should which would no doubt stabilise the base surround.

Picture of holes - marked red

Any ideas peeps as I have forgotten what Simon Baxter told me to look out for.....slept since then ?

Cheers

Shaun

I rang loads of VW dealers when I first posted this and they all told me that the part was no longer orderable. I found the bits at Gowesty in california but baulked at the price and they sold out for good. So today I rang VW again on the off chance (smith knight fay in bolton) and now they are saying the parts are orderable and the van centre in manchester will get me them in 7-10 working days???!!!! :?:

Still expecting to get a call saying they can't get them though.

part ending 820 is not deleted as far as I know - it's on back order to Germany at the mo. Part ending 819 is however deleted which is a pain if you haven't any of these wedges.....lots of swivels coming off ebay seem to be incomplete in some way or other.

The part is 251-881-320.

Did you mean ending 320? And what do you mean by wedges?

I had a conversation with some woman on fleaby who was selling a swivel base without the bolting plate that welds between the runners

I see what you mean, it's the upper guide piece thats unavailable part number 251 881 319. Usually the swivel plate still has them intact as they fit more securely.

The part I want is more loose and easily lost when taking the swivel off. The bit pictured earlier in the topic

Finally got my hands on the swivel seat guides, lower from the VW van centre in manchester

So if you have wobbly swivel base get onto your vw van centre for the parts (4 needed) only about £1.50 each
