Hi there
I live in smelly old London and am considering an lpg conversion for my '81 Aircooled westy. According to the tfl website your conversion has to be done by an "approved" company in order to apply for a 100% discount.
Now clearly Gasure are the dogs testis when it comes to lpg (I've read the threads!) and sounds like a good option. I have friends who live in THE NORTH!!!! so could make a trip of it. Thing is, are Gasure on the "approved" list and if not can they please get on it.

Alternative Fuel Vehicles can register for 100% discount from Congestion Charging at a £10 annual charge per year every year. There can only be one registered Alternative Fuel Vehicle per customer
number.
To fit the requirements of an Alternative Fuel vehicle, your vehicle must be registered with Powershift or the Cleanup register as at least band 4, which means that the vehicle produces 40% less oxide omissions than standard vehicles. The Powershift or Cleanup register can be viewed on
the Energy Saving Trust website which is www.est.org.uk
In order to be on the Powershift register, you need to check with the garage that you purchased the vehicle from. They will then provide you with the Powershift paperwork that confirms that the
vehicle is registered.
The proof we need to register you for the Alternative Fuel Discount are, a photocopy of your V5c document, the Certificate of Conformity or if the vehicle is manufactured as an Alternative Fuel, then a copy of the purchase agreement can be sent instead of the Certificate of Conformity.
Obviosly this does not clear up much. Do Gasure supply you with a certificate of conformity? Do you end up with 40% less oxide emissions? I did mention in my query that it is an old vehicle and they make no mention in their reply.

To qualify, the vehicle must pass an European standard emissions test, which can cost as much as £5,000. In addition, the vehicle must be provided by an approved installer or manufacturer. If the vehicle is not on the Register it will not be eligible even though it may have been converted by an approved installer.
seems harsh. I personally like the conjestion charge. I cycle to work and few people really need to use a car everyday in town. There is so much less traffic than there was 3 or 4 years ago. Thing is though, they should be encouraging people to convert their cars to LPG because of the environmental benefits and this is an ideal opportunity to do so.
