2.1DJ Runs and dies

Post by Stevie H »

Hi, My 2.1DJ starts fine runs for a while then dies at the most inopportune moments for no reason. It can then be hard to start then and when it does it idles very badly. When it 'clears' itself it runs great again only to stop again later. There are brand new plugs in the engine about 1000 miles ago. Do the injectors get 'clogged' or dirty as it seems to be off a plug or something when this happens!

Many thanks in advance.

2.1 problems

Post by Fritz »

Steve,,,,,,,sounds like you may have a fault with the engine running too rich soon after initial start which may down to one of the 2 temp senders or even the wiring (broken due to vibration/age) on the thermostat housing.

Eliminate these as suggested then report back....

Regards

Fritz,,,,,,

PS, I seem to remember the sender pointing to the front of the vehicle is for the fuel system,,,,,,the other sorts out the gauge on the dash.
One day you will find me,,

Could be the fuel filter if it hasn't been changed recently...

Thanks for that guys! The fuel filter was renewed when I put new fuel lines on.

I'll check out the wiring where you are talking about too. I renewed the infamous water pipe and may have upset something around the housing.

Thanks again.

over rich and dies, try cleaning out the vacuum manifold on the plenum chamber for the fuel pressure regulator, no vacuum there will give you this - I had this myself recently, reamed it out with small screwdriver and put on new pipe and all good now.

no choke on a 2.1 (i think) its all brains driven, no mechanical stuff to go "wrong" To answer your question , yes the injectors on any FI system could get blocked. Usual ignition problems HT leads, dizzy, coil, battery, alternator. Your plenum chamber is the ovoid box that is in the middle/top of your engine that the tubes come from that deliver petrol/air to your cylinders.
