I wanted to install the relay in the relay board behind the fuses, I have an early non blade set-up, so I traced the wires from the wiper switch to where they pass the fuse board. I then carefully labelled them ready for the installation

Next I dropped the relay board (undid the two retaining screws) and checked that the relay would fit in one of the spare gaps.
I decided to use the far right one as this would be easier to access.

Following the Wiki https://club8090.co.uk/wiki/VW ... ent_wipers article
I cut and spliced the necessary wires and attached "spade" connectors to the ends and pushed them into the corresponding holes in the relay board I also ran a wire from the wiper switch to the relay board too.

I reconnected the battery after installing the relay and did a quick test before tidying up

Everything worked as it should, I had managed to get the relay that includes the variable intermittent wipe as well as wiping when you activate the washer jets too.

I removed all my temporary labels, tie strapped and taped everything to neaten things up and refitted the fuse/relay board.

Job done all for the price of a £2.00 relay and about £3.00 for wire and connectors.
I am so pleased with it I cannot wait for it to rain now
