Re: Rear wing, arch, valance, side window & sliding door repair
The rot must just be due to condensation because no water ever go in through my window seals

when the holes cut and flared as original they are stronger stiffer than straight sheet, it helps decrease weight as well and cost as the punched out bits are all recycled, same as inner wing areas etc, on its own not a lot but times 100,000 units it adds up , IMHO

if you fold the lower lip of the door and weld it,it will strengthen it so it can be placed down if taken off..if you leave it like that it will bend easily..and the dog wont thank you for trapping his tail in it

yeah proberbly is condensation but if the holes are there itll let airflow to it rather than just sitting in there

Nice one Weldore, I don't remember it being that flimsy but will make sure tomorrow. Luckily I don't have a dog but don't want to think about what it might do to the many many dolls the kids have in our house; or do I ? Jon.

Anyways, got the front skin tacked in fully.

Then welded and ground back.

Putting out a small fire starting on some visqueen with my bloody hand (owch) brought an end to the day. Will get some more pics and check out the sliding door components tomorrow. Jon.

Yep, what a plonker!! Couldn't clean off for ages as the warm water and scrubbing bleeding hurt some more. I will just let it wear off. Jon.

Re: Rear wing, arch, valance, side window & sliding door repair
Just finished reading your whole thread here Jon, and have to say, fair play mate! Well done on tackling these jobs with the help of Mike too of course. My Syncro is pretty solid, but one rear arch was repaired in haste for our version of the UK MOT, and its not perfect, but will do for a while. I do plan on replacing the whole panel like yourself, and currently being taught how to weld by my father in law.
Keep up the great work, and I will look forward to your progress

Cheers Mickyfin. I would work on it all day if it wasn't for work, kids, girlfriend etc. But I am enjoying every minute. Going to be a while yet but this way I am learning loads as I go along. Will take a nosey at your work sometime.
Jon.

Started with this today. Having read so much about copy cab step pieces being a poor fit the plan was to make our own. So glad we did as it was so easy. Jon.
