Excellent, I hadn't even thought of hiring one! I'm going to have to look into this properly tomorrow. Thanks a lot!

Thanks a million, I'll have a dig around and see what I can find, used engine wise. AngeloEvs, thanks for the good wishes - you know, I haven't had the van that long but I already feel that way about her. If I have the money, I'll do it - I'd rather get my old camper back to good health than eat :) ...

Disclaimer: I'm a newbie. Sounds to me like the only way it could be coming out would be the filler or the dipstick. Anything else and it would be all over the engine bay or underside. I'd trace those back first. You could also refill and start the engine while watching closely, but if it was coming...

I'd check the whole door seal, if you haven't already. My T25 has a small lake near the bottom of the passenger door, but the water's actually getting in near the top front corner and running down the inside, between the door and the van body, to emerge at the bottom. It had me stumped for a little ...

Worn old engine, any advice welcome

Hello again - another day, another problem with my T25 (air cooled 2 litre auto, 1980). I'm really just looking for some advice - any advice - on how best to deal with a fairly worn out engine. She's done just over 100,000 miles if the odo can be trusted (service history suggests it's been working f...

The conclusion

Hi folks, In case anyone's interested, here's how this went eventually: Thanks for all the encouragement with this. I finally got the starter off by stacking up bricks under it and placing an axle stand on top, touching the solenoid, while the rear right corner of the van was jacked up. Then I lower...

Cheers for the tip, I have been a bit scared to really whack it. Not much room to take a swing with a hammer down there either, but I did have one idea - what d'you think of the idea of putting a jack up against the solenoid and using that to force the starter round clockwise? I figure if it's attac...

Still fighting with this starter

I've had another look at this today and I still can't see any obstruction or move the starter from where it is. I've taken a few photos showing the starter and the engine bay where I removed the nut - you can see both bolts are gone and I'm pretty sure there's nothing visible in the way. The picture...

Thanks a lot for the advice, and the incredibly rapid reply! :) I'm out from under the van for the day now so I'll need to look again tomorrow. I can't feel anything still in the way but maybe I just didn't look hard enough last time. When I took off the nut in the engine bay that holds the second b...

Starter motor removal not going well!

Hi folks! I'm new to the forum and I'd really appreciate some help with this one. My van is a 1980 T25, air cooled petrol engine (1970cc) with automatic transmission (right hand drive). No idea who did the original conversion as the interior's long gone, but it has always been a camper. I bought thi...
