Hi, had exactly the same problem on a replacement 1.6TD turned out to be the solenoid but as I got it replaced under warranty - can;t advise on the swap process I'm afraid. A quick way to check whether it's faulty iginition switch or not: switch on auxillary accessories - lights etc. if they go off ...
