Re: Main beam issue
If the other lights work in the same headlamp, it won't be the earth, as they share the same earth. So either the high beam bulb element has burnt out, or no power to the bulb, check fuses 5 & 6 as they control the left/right main beam elements.

Sorry - I googled the amplifier - it comes up with an image of the unit I have just replaced (ignition control unit) - is this the same thing? Thanks again Simon Yes, they are called various names, Amplifier, Ignition module/control unit. Although it is an amplifier of the Hall signal for the high ...

Re: Can the ignition control unit be tested?
Thanks again for the help. I have tested as above and get sparks from the HT lead when scraping a wire across the engine but I don't have any voltage showing across the 2 outer connections of the 3 pin socket in the distributor. Could someone please advise if this means the fault could be with the ...

Tanks all come from the same manufacturer in Taiwan. Don't do anything with the inside of the tank, sustained contact with ethanol strips most paints, gel coats etc.

Re: No spark
Bust put a picture up of your distributor.
If it originally started on easy start, the ignition was not the problem.
You now have to recheck what you did too now cause no spark.

Re: Tiny pin in distributor / hall sender
VW stopped supplying them in 2009, part number 035 905 319. But you can use the roll pin, it is only to hold the window vane in place.

Re: New exhaust system
Whats the problem. If you bought a mild steel exhaust, that's how they come, even the original VW ones. Brickworks sell the same mild steel JP exhausts.

Re: Wheel Bearing Question
Heritage sell a choice of parts at varied prices, own brand Forst (outer has a nylon caged race  ), Febi Bilstein and Koyo. The inner bearing is a standard bearing 6207 in C3 grind. I'd normally buy a SKF of that for around £8, Koyo are very good Japanese equivalent (or better depending on y...
