Hooray its running fine. I stripped the carb to the bare bones, cleaned every orofice with carb cleaner and then compressed air paying special attention to the main jet(I think) at the bottom of the float chamber (I missed this one earlier). There is fuel getting to the carb as the float chamber was full .I also took the fuel pipe off and cranked it over and lots of fuel came through. I checked the cut off valve and it was ok but as you said some improvement in the heat probably suggests that I have partially cured the blockage. I forgo...

I have a 1982 camper 2.0l ,engine code CU.It has twin Solex carbs but I think that the one on the offside is playing up.
