Re: Door Mirror Fix?

Success.
I have been driving without any movement for a weeek or three now. I cleaned it up, roughed it with some emery, applied a liberal amount of loctite threadlock and tightened.
Cheers, Paul.

Re: Door Mirror Fix?

Well thanks all.
I need to look into the availability of original mirrors. I had thought of fixing/gluing them in place but would like the option of turning the drivers side in where I park. I will experiment with a knackered one.
Cheers, Paul.

Door Mirror Fix?

Does anyone have a tried and tested method of improving the stability of the door mirrors. I have had several and they have all ended up flapping in the wind. I have broken at least one from overtightening as well. If there is a superior make that lasts I will buy one but am reluctant to keep buying...

Devon Roof - Hinge Problem.

I recently noticed that the front of my Devon roof was slightly lifted on the front corner. I had a quick look (before the van was carted off by the insurers after a recent attempted theft) and the hinge is still perfectly attached to the fibreglass so I presume the damage to be where it is fixed to...

Just got a notification to this one... but nothing for the 8 replies to the last two threads I started.

I haven't changed any settings but I'll take a look.

Thanks, Paul.

Sorry about the delay - I wasn't sent any email notification so didn't know the post had been replied to till now.

Cheers, Paul.

Refinishing Part 2

I have 2 sets of badly pitted hub caps. One set was virtually new and went downhill rapidly without being exposed to much bad weather. I am presuming that they are cheapo copies. Is it worth getting a genuine VW set? Alternatively is there a way of refurbishing the ones I've got that won't break the...

Refinishing Part 1

I need some recommendations for someone to do some fairly minor paint and body work to my '83 Devon camper. Mainly seams and refinishing the kerbside lower half after a 'keying' incident. Is there anything worth doing myself to pre-prepare the panel seams? I am in Birmingham but will travel a fair d...

Trailing Arm Bushes

I managed to get hold of a used trailing arm and it looks like a good idea to replace the bushes.

Any tips on how to get them out and new ones in?

On further investigation this morning it looks to me that the offending part might just be the plate that sits between the spring and the trailing arm (shown as lower packing in Haynes).

If I take it apart and put a new one in place maybe that will satisfy - is this an easily found part?

Easier to just unbolt the arm and bolt on a good second-hand one from Syncrospares :) 10 minute job :) Is it really so simple :? . I have a few days to get it sorted and have no idea what needs to be done. Is there anyone who can give a reasonable description of the procedure to change a trailing a...

Well if a new a decent arm were available locally as cheap as repairing the one I've got then ok but I'm in Birmingham and would like to sort in the 7 days I've got for my free re-test.

Anyone know of a local source of second hand bits to me?

And is it really that simple to swap them?

MOT Failure Advice Please-rear spring/trailing arm junction.

My '83 Devon Camper has just failed its MOT on one item: "N/S rear lower coil spring mounting corroded and seriously weakened" I've had a look and it looks like a disk between the spring and the trailing arm that is crumbling and lifting from the arm. Is there a specific part that can be w...
