Re: Water pump and alt conversion to single belt
My 1.6d had a single belt when i bought it, but i switched back to double belts. The single belt made less contact with the water pump so it squeaked all the time.

Re: Restoring/replacing the engine cover foam
I've used fire retardant engine room liner from the nautical world. Works nicely.

Re: Upholstery repair
I asked my girlfriend, who's really handy with fabric and redid our upholstery. She says she would just embroider a flower over it, but you could also embroider it closed with color-matched thread.

Re: Heater blower motor
Replacing the fan is quite doable if you take it slowly and photograph every step.
I replaced just the fan, works fine now.
My advice would be to change the rubber heater hoses back there if they seem old.
I believe I can acces my wiper motor from the glove box with the dash still in.

Re: Coolant issues
Sounds like you're doing the right things, so probably something is broken. The heater matrix is supposed to bleed itself automatically. I've had it out and didn't have to bleed afterwards. I'm assuming your interior fan is working. Perhaps a silly test, but maybe you can try to pop off the hose at ...

Re: Garrett t2 water cooled turbo - pipework
Doesn't this mean that currently the turbo won't get any cooling when the heating in the van is off? Or did they make a bypass?

Re: Inclines
With my 50hp diesel I often end up going 20 mph in 2nd on steep inclines. It's part of the deal I guess. Although you should have a bit more power available than me.

Re: Painting the Dashboard
I've recently rolled mine in black hammerite ultima. Was a quick job, and had the stuff already around. Also filled up some screw holes from previous owners with some kind of bog beforehand. Really liking the result so far, fresh and shiny again. https://i.imgur.com/om9Mpon.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/...

Your radiator will be mostly empty, so you'll need to bleed the system.

Re: Liquid gasket
Thanks Aidan. I was thinking that it would be nice to have the ability to solve most coolant/oil leaks on the side of the road.
Good tips om the amalgamating tape and the two-part putty. Those might be better and more versatile to get instead!

Liquid gasket
Hey all,
I would like to add some liquid gasket to my emergency toolkit. But having never used the stuff before I would like your opinions on it, and which ones are good to have for broad applications.
Thanks!

I rolled three coats of hammerite ultima on mine, as I had that lying about anyway. Am happy with the result, hasn't aged or damaged in the two years since I did it.

In the process of retightening the sparkplug you might have accidentally knocked something else loose.
