Re: Chicken Switch Question

Sorry to resurrect this! Should have spotted at the time mines an early van. I can see the white and red going to the rad but on the blue/red it runs to the relay and stops. Only one white red runs to the fuseboard?

Any diagrams for early models? Thanks

Chicken Switch Question

Right Folks, I need a chicken switch. I know I know I shouldn't need one if its done properly but I'd like a back up. Reason being end of last year my van overheated and blew all its coolant out again! (3rd time in the year and half of owning). I've changed the rad to a brand new one, its had two ne...

Re: Rebuild Vs Engine Swap ?

One thing to consider is historical vehicle status. If you change the engine to another type you ‘may’ not be able to get historical (classic) status.  From gov.com on what’s an acceptable substantial change is (point to note: historical status exempts you from ulez charges, definitely in London. C...

I currently have the 1.9L WBX in my van but as its coming up to its 39th birthday its pretty tired overall. its low mileage which is part of the issue as its not been used much. The plan this winter is to drop the engine out...

Re: Oil sump question? I’m sorry to ask !!

It’s definitely not a standard sump plug for a 1.9 dg wbx. Maybe someone has stripped it and retapped it? Maybe use a pump to remove the oil before opening a can of worms. I do my 6 month change with a pump and for the 12 month one I drop the oil and change the filter. The pump does a pretty good j...

Hi mate, no definitely oil. The gear box has what I’d class as a standard sump plug in

Hi all, I’ve searched the internet and cannot find the answer so I’ll ask the experts. Need to do an oil change on the van. 1.9 waterboxer but the sump plug is as below. Is this original or a fix? It’s pretty solid so haven’t put any force on it as I don’t want break it and give myself a headache :?...

Re: Reverse lights not working ! Help!!

You were lucky there.   I would check as much wiring as you can if that is the standard of some previous owner's work. Those wires look as though they were just twisted together. ( I found work like that on my Merc bus, wires just twisted together and taped up - the guy was a marine ...

Re: Reverse lights not working ! Help!!

Cheers, I’ll spend the time and re wire the lot. Looks like it’s damaged it at the back of the plug on the alternator too so best to be safe.

I’ll definitely heat shrink etc. I’m fairly confident when it comes to wiring so should be okay

Cheers for your help 👍

Re: Reverse lights not working ! Help!!

Okey doke... We need to check the voltage across the battery terminals at rest and with the van running. Typical voltage should be betwern 12 and approx 12.7 with the engine off. With the engine running you would hope for at least 13.5 volts... closer to 14 or 14.5 would be ideal. If the alternator...

Hi all, so update 😂 and another problem and as it’s electrical I’ll try use the same thread! we went to the beach for the evening. When leaving couldn’t get it to start. I carry a jump pack so jumped and off we went. Struggled for a few miles before dying. Jumped a couple of times before the battery...
