front seatbelts
Ignoring the standard "how much would you put on your life" and "I use X for all my parts" type replies does anyone know why seatbelts are prices so widely? looking at eBay/Schofields/JK/Brickwerks/and others they seem to run from 14.99 to 100.00 per seatbelt, oddly the more expe...

Re: anyway to locate the original engine number?
Type is 254 011 the info on ETOS maybe wrong because it says Type 2 panel van, but 254 is Kombi, if it has factory rear windows its a Kombi (the most basic passenger bus, so it had seat belt mounts in the rear but no extra sound deadening) 0 = no standard extras 1 = CT engine 1 = with M17 = 2 seate...

Re: anyway to locate the original engine number?
Volkswagen will not provide you with the original engine number. If you have some connection with a VW dealer, you can get the data sheet that Volkswagen Classic Parts sells for £59.95 You can see the data sheet of my Syncro with a masked VIN, which I received from a dealer. It shows the engine cod...

Re: anyway to locate the original engine number?
why do you want to know the original engine number ? If the engine in the van isn't the same number as on the V5 and is the correct type and there is no note on the V5 re an update/information change it is likely that was the original engine, easy enough o work out if it is approximately right by t...

Re: anyway to locate the original engine number?
I am not sure if the birth certificate you can buy at vw-classicparts contain the engine nr or only the negine code? E D I T: it seems like it contains it: https://www.volkswagen-classic-parts.com/en_global/service/certificate-data-sheets.html I got the birth cert from that service a few years back...

anyway to locate the original engine number?
Is there anyway (paid or free service) to find out what the original engine number would have been on a van? it'd be mega if the DLVA provided something like this, they'd make money on it I'm sure!

Re: Engine bay sound deadening
I've gone thru the same process, the back end of my van has been gutted and so far on the outside area above the gearbox I've used this stuff cut to fit in the corrugations on the metalwork... https://www.dodomat.com/collections/sound-deadening/products/dodo-dead-ezy-deadening-roll ...then this stuf...

measurements for air-cooled heater control cable brackets
Evening folks, If you're in the Derby/Notts area and don't mind someone measuring bits on your van could you contact me please. I'd like to come and measure up the heater control cable brackets that are on the rear chassis rails near the heater pods. Mine rotted off and I need to fabricate new ones ...

Rear crossmember behind valance dimensions
Howdy all, Does anyoe have or know where I can find the dimensions for the rear cross member that sits behind the rear valance? I'm in the middle of replacing the drip trays and the rear valance but my cross member is pretty rotten, I need to fabricate the 2 'wings' that go out from the chassis rail...

Re: photo of my CT engine for comments
Hi All, I have realised today that my engine is a CT not a CU as stated on the reg...although I think the seller advertised it as a 1986 1.6 come to think of it. The van is 1983 and the odometer is just over 17K, which I assumed to be 117K, but now I'm not so sure. Do you think the engine could be ...

Re: photo of my CT engine for comments
Thanks for the advice. Would it be legal to convert to lpg with this method, if I manage to find someone willing to do it? Yes, technically not illegal, but won't comply with CoP11 guidelines, so can't be certified as such. Your insurance company may not like that, and you hit the nail with findin...
