Re: Auto box help

The ATF seemed ok but I was surprised of the colour of the Final Drive oil.
I guess I just need to suck it and see for now. You gotta love these VW’s !

Re: Auto box help

Thanks Rob I’ve just changed the ATF & Final Drive oil. A messy but satisfying job. I couldn’t help noticing that the Final Drive Oil was vary dark/reddish but the new oil was clear/colourless. Fingers crossed there’s nothing serious around the corner. All the forward gears transition quietly &a...

Auto box help

I’m noticing on occasions my autobox gives a right old this when going into reverse. It’s not all the time but I feel it’s becoming more frequent. Only ever reverse though. Anyone else experience this ? Oil level appears fine, although I’ve not checked the final drive oil, as I’m not sure how? Any p...

Running / idle issue

Apologies if this is a common question. I'm having idle/ running issues with my 2.1i It seems to be down to a faulty idle controller - the little black box behind offside Light cluster. Is this a common fault ? I can't find a spare replacement unit anywhere ? Is there a modification that people advi...

Re: Coolant issues 2.1i

Ive attached a screen grab off their website.
Im not qualified enough to know where I stand on this thing.
Do the connections on the coolant hoses front to rear count as "ancillaries" ?

Re: Coolant issues 2.1i

I know. Trouble is it was the radiator end that was the culprit connecting piece above the spare wheel.
This 2.1i is jinxed. On the positive side at least this has been identified before my trip to Spain !

Re: Coolant issues 2.1i

Update! Took it back to the garage that fitted the new engine.. Have been advised that it's a head gasket gone. Bad news it's not covered by warranty as the cause would have been overheating due to a corroded coolant pipe connection. At least I haven't booked a ferry to Spain in 8 days with camper!!!!

Re: Coolant issues 2.1i

Yeah bled from radiator bleed screw when arrived in Weymouth. Loads of air escaped. Next day I topped up the header by reving engine at same time. Which added only quarter litre ish. Drove to London Bled a touch at petrol station on route. Then checked when arrived home, didn't appear to have any ai...

Coolant issues 2.1i

Can anyone offer up advice. I've been having general coolant air bleeding issues for a couple of weeks. I understand it can take some time to fully remove the air. So I'm persevering. I've just returned from a long run last night. Weymouth - London. Bled loads of air out the radiator when arrived in...

Re: starter motor

"frell" all probably (London prices) Solenoid was playing up and brushes were worn. I was glad to get it fixed to be honest. 1st guy had it 24hrs but couldn't find parts? It had been sprayed black when I git it back which leads me to think He probably did not much else. At least it now works

Re: Dash removal to repair heater fan

The old foam on the flaps that open and close had perished and was turning to dust when rubbed - meaning you are probably inhaling when fan in use.
I removed all that and replaced with new fire retardant foam. Also removed the heater matrix thingy and cleaned about 2 tonne of dead flies away!
