door seals
Fitted new ones a few weeks ago. Managed without fully removing doors, just disconnected door straps, and loosened hinge and latch bolts/screws. Fiddly job, I applied glue to bottom of channel and body tape to side. Because the seals I bought did not have holes ready for clips I made these with a re...

Things I've learned over past couple of days of van tinkering. If you are having problems getting the foil backed 'blackouts' to stay on, give the suckers a really good clean with a 'window' product as well as your windows and they stick on really well. I was having problems getting even new ones to...

Spax adjustable shock absorber fail
Hi
Has anyone else had problems with these? Bought to replace standard ones 18 months ago. One of the front ones has come apart when I tried to adjust settings, I suspect due to corrosion in the adjuster. Oil everywhere, and van off the road.

Working on the van on a wet day
Refitting interior of my ‘86 conversion. Had a great idea. Put up the awning soo can have some dry space to work in outside the van. Not used the awning much. ARB bought about 4 years From Campervan Culture. Well, after the initial problems with brackets that were wrong and I had to re-engineer them...

Re: Blue main beam tell tale not working.
Only just seen this. Check that the lever assembly has been fitted properly. It kind of hooks under the switch on the column, if that makes sense.

Access to heater blower switch
Once again Haynes is silent on this. Many article suggest removing whole dash! But its so easy to get to. Pull of knob. Prise off the panel with a screwdriver which is held on by a couple of push fit connectors - not sure of correct name. No need to even take off plastic ends of heater control lever...

Once again, electrical problems. Lost all electrics, and I mean all. Luckily at home. Didn't believe it could be battery earth again, so tested pretty much everything else. In desperation removed earth bolt, cleaned around the hole and ground back to bare metal. Re-connected and she fired up.

Its f***ing hard. Don't believe some of the posts or Haynes. You need quite a few specialist tools, be able to lift rear of van and make it very secure - axle stands, van jack plus a trolley jack to compress spring/free stubborn bolts /for extra security. You should be prepared to replace more compo...

Re activating speedo and bottom ball joints
After my van had a long sleep - welder had a heart attack, then we had lockdown - I noticed speedo not working. Checked cable, tick, changed routing, making sure not trapped between spare wheel and cradle - it was - tick. Still not working. After much dismantling and bad language, perusal of the int...

Made a tool to undo rod from hub, 27mm spanner - Silverline do one open one end, ring the other. Fastened it with H/D jubilee clips to a 3ft socket bar, one of the jubilees through the ring. Can't figure out how to post a photo of it.

Front shock absorber fitting
Did this today. Struggled to fit the new ones until I worked out to knock out a collett on one side of the bottom mounting. This allows the sleeve through the bottom bush to see pushed up and the bolt will draw the collect back in as you tighten it. Oddly Haynes makes no mention of this. Not the fir...

Took mine off as was grounding in bumpy fields. Now running lower springs and PAS so handling much improved.
