Re: DG Ignition timing
slow tickover can be just the throttle stop position or if on LPG it can be the idle bypass on the vapouriser set badly. measure the diameter of the pulley, circumference is 3.14x diameter. So now you have the circumference divide it by 72 for the distance around the circumference of 5 degrees. so ...

Re: DG Ignition timing
As you have the right dizzy and the vac seems to work why are you concerned are there poor running symptoms? If I remember I looked at the max advance with my gun while givving it a very good rev and it was about 40 degrees Hi, itchyfeet, Yes the engine does seem to tickover a bit low and after try...

Re: DG Ignition timing
Mick is the vacuum advance unit dual vacuum or has the correct DG single vacuum unit been fitted ? 025 905 205 Q or 205 AE are DG disis, 205 N or 205 AF are DJ ones I have asked Bosch dealer whether the internals are the same between DG and DJ disi and he couldn't tell me, Bosch technical dept. cou...

DG Ignition timing
Morning all, I've read the wiki and I'm still a bit unsure. My 1.9 DG engine seems to have a 2.1 dizzy according to the part numbers. Is this OK ? The engine runs OK but I'm worried that the dizzy is giving too much advance. Does anyone know in millimeters how much advance I should get with the vacu...

Re: Piston Ring replacement ?
Hi, Yes errrr. The leaks I refer to are from each rocker cover, but are only very very slight, ie the kitchen roll is a bit wet from the drop of oil. When I said the back of the van is oily, I mean the back window and tailgate area above the bumper is oily. I can write in the muck on the rear window...

Piston Ring replacement ?
Hi All again. After getting Bertie running ok, thanks to all again, I have noticed that I use alot of oil. Cant find any leeks, but can be smokey on start up, but NOT every time. When I go for a 5-10 mile run to the tip, full of oil, on the way back the oil buzzur starts going off. I can stop it by ...

Re: DG overfueling ?
Hi Kev, Ian and all others who helped me with this.
Bertie is fixed ! I've been to the tip and about time too. I need to give Bertie a good clean now.
Thanks again, come round for a cup of tea anytime, you've earned it.
As for me I've learnt another lesson......again.

Re: DG overfueling ?
Thanks Kev and Ian for the info on the push rod. I've measured it and its about 96mm long. I've ordered a full set of bits and gaskets from VW heritage. About £35 with the postage. Just checking that the push rod goes pointy end down. Into the engine and the pump sits on the flat end ? Thanks again ...

Re: DG overfueling ?
I can't believe you fitted a carb without checking the fuel supply Tell me you did? ...and did you find out whether you have any manifold air leaks? like the servo hose? remember don't assume.    I disconnected the fuel line to the carb after the pump and turned the engine ...

Re: DG overfueling ?
Oh well. Swapped the carbs. Bertie is still the same. Ticks over ok. Goes if you use the throttle gently but if you boot it he dies.
Mick.

Re: DG overfueling ?
Ok, I've managed to borrow a carb from a friend. Went for a run in his then took the carb off. Just dropped it off at the garage now. They said to ring in the morning. Fingers crossed we can start figuring this out soon .
Thanks for all your help. I'll keep you all posted

Re: DG overfueling ?
IMHO it's not over fueling but under fueling When cold the choke richens the mixture, and the engine runs ok.. When the choke comes off 6-8 mins it's a bag of poo say to me that the mixture leans out too much when the choke is off. backfiring, no power and stalling are classic symptoms. many causes...

Re: DG overfueling ?
Hi, I don't think it's steam cos I just changed the engine because the old one leaked water and put exhaust into coolant. So not steam. This white smoke stays low to the floor and swirls around not up into the air like steam. It only smokes when flooded and won't start. Bettie has just passed the MO...
