Sliding door handle lock
Yes I searched. My door lock in the slider has never worked. Key fits in the hole and turns ok, but doesnt lock or unlock the door. Removed the handle today, sprayed it all with grease and got it working pretty smoothly, but still no joy. As any of you who have been down this road will know, the key...

Re: Tracking in London
Oh I already crawled under there and got all the adjusters moving. I know from experience, just how easy it is to skip things when you are only getting paid an hour and need to spend 45 min getting the adjuster to move. Yeah, if you know of a place that will actually DO the work, then I'm all ears. ...

Tracking in London
Right gents, I am pulling my hair out now. I have an 86 westy, and my front camber is out. Its wearing tires on the inside edge. Had the fronts replaced, and asked the tire guy for a recommendation. He told me about a place called wheel power. Went to see them, and they didn't want to do it. Said he...

Re: Jx diesel turbo
That's right. They are painfully expensive, about £20 each, and if you have them re-use them.
That said, I have used others in the past when the originals rounded off or were otherwise not available, and it does seem to hold up with normal mild steel bolts.

AAZ idle adjustment, and a manual.
Hey guys, I have just done an AAZ swap and its idling up around 11-1200. Not the end of the world, but worth correcting. however despite my best efforts I cannot seem to find anyone who can give me a straight answer as to how to adjust it. My throttle linkage is loose at idle, so not pretensioning a...

Re: Late AAZ timing adjustment
Just sitting here thinking about it and I think i've got it. If I set it up at TDC (cam lock in and shimmed, crank mark lined up, pump pin in place), and get my dial indicator in and setup, I should be able to pull the locking pin out of the pump, and rotate the center nut till the dial indicator is...

Late AAZ timing adjustment
Gents, I am building up an engine for my Westy, its a late AAZ. just now getting round to the cam belt and adjusting the timing. My plan was to set it at 1mm as per damn near everyone online, however I have the new 2 piece injection pump pulley with the locking pin slot (and no elongated mounting ho...

Re: AAZ takes ages to start
Bringing this back from the dead as I was going thru my old posts and realised it never got answered. In the end it was the seal right behind the pulley on the injection pump. Bought a full rebuild kit, but just used that one seal. Wasn't hard to replace, and totally solved the problem. Then I sold ...

Re: the never ending AAZ vs TDI debate
So having spent the night reading up on what's involved, I am going to say nevermind. Think I'll go AAZ with a fiddles fuel setting and a better boost pin again. Tempting though all the cheap TDI's may be, it's going to still rattle up to being a more expensive (and more time consuming) project to g...

Re: the never ending AAZ vs TDI debate
So looking for parts to re gear, all I have found is brickwork doing a ring and pinion for £600. While I realize that is not THAT absurd given that we have a rather involved shaft for the pinion gear, it damn sure isn't cheap either. I have heard mention of German companies selling gears for these b...

Re: the never ending AAZ vs TDI debate
Yeah, stuff that at low 20's. The beauty of these things for me has always been the fuel economy. I have been looking for a good reason to swap a 1.8t into something and I even have a spare mega squirt lying around, but as much fun as the power would be, I'd miss the economy. It's a factory Westy so...

Re: the never ending AAZ vs TDI debate
OK, thats 2 of you. Not to totally derail what I was asking about, but what are you on about? I have been hearing rumblings about this for a while, but not paying any attention as I am down in Winchester at the moment. Is there some sort of actual legislation coming that I didn't hear about? Or is t...

the never ending AAZ vs TDI debate
Gentlemen, I need a bit of input from those of you who have a bit of experience here. I have recently bought an 86 JX powered westfalia. Now, the last one I had a couple of years ago threw its cam belt on the M3, and I replaced it with an AAZ. My plan with this one was to do the same. The JX in ther...

Re: Power steering diagnosis
Way ahead of you. Used compressed air to clear out everything before I filled it. And with it springing leaks, as I tested, I've ended up filling it 3 times before it was finally leak free. Fluid is nice and clean in the reservoir now.
