Re: Lhd steering rack

Just down the road from you?

Try Kelly Bray, I think they were the people I used, assuming its them they did a good job and the price was fine for an overhauled rack.

Re: major clutch issue, stuck in italy.. PLEASE HELP SOMEONE.

Mine did the same thing last week. We all came home and the van is with a VW agent waiting for the part to arrive from Brickwerks. If it is the cylinder it is a simple job and I'm sure the garage can source the part locally. If you do order it from the UK then I would recommend a courier if you are ...

Re: leasure battery

Turn seat nearly 90deg so its front is facing you, and look at the seat runner, there is a small latch, lift it and slide the seat off and out of the van. Then turn the seat base so it is back to front, you can now get to the battery. Mal.

Re: No Brakes

My rule of thumb is to go down the hill in the gear I would go up the hill. That usually ensures adeqate engine braking and little need to use the actual brakes. Hope this helps and enjoy France. Im on my way tomorrow, horay. Mal.

clear plastic diesel feed and return pipes

I have the later filter and assume that one is the input from the tank, one a return from the inj pump and the other is a heater circuit? Either way one of the pipes is leaking at the filter. It’s very small and only shows after a long drive. My questions; 1. Where can I get the hard clear plastic p...

Second leisure battery in Westfalia

Well I've done it, my first electrical project and nothing went bang! As this is a 1.6td the engine battery is in the boot and the leisure battery is under the driver’s seat (ns), so I figured I could fit a second battery under the os passenger seat. The main reason was to ensure sufficient amperage...

How do I pay Gunzl?

I've ordered the parts and had an order confirmation from them. But the order process did not take me to Visa or PayPal. So how do I pay???

Re: Squeek goes when i press brake...

Mine do this after a few applications of the brakes. My concern was that if the brakes were rubbing then the discs/pads may overheat. This does not seem to be happening so I have lived with it. Brake calipers usually have a seal around the piston that is designed to ease the piston back a tiny amoun...

Re: Newbie and purchase questions?

Martin, you may be right. I know I can do 200 miles to the half way mark on the guage. I know I did 28mpg, toping the tank and toping the tank, dividing fuel refilled and miles travelled. I know I've done 350 miles and got near to the red (depends if going up or down hill!). What I don't know is how...

Re: Newbie and purchase questions?

The 1.6td engine is fine; it's just that the automotive world has moved on. 65bhp and 2,500kg are never going to cut it compared to, say, my 1.9td Passat with 130bhp and 1,000 kg less weight. The van will cruise at 70 but the fuel consumption and noise start to get to high (compared to a modern car)...

Re: Newbie and purchase questions?

Recently my 1.6td did a measured 28mpg cruising at about 60 mainly on motorways. I filled the tank to the brim then refilled it, converted litres to gallons etc. So it does about 400 miles per tank with some to fuel to spare. So I would estimate real world mixed use with a light foot about 24mpg. No...

Re: A word of warning to all :(

...Big Deep Breath...

I wanted to mention split brake circuits beceause they will provide that safety net. Though for that split second when there are no brakes is probably one of lifes more horrible moments (yes something similar happened to me). Are the earlier and later models different?

Re: Rotten Egg smell

I've had this. After blaming the cars in front, cats and high sulpher fuel, realised it was my waste tank! At the bottom of the black tank near the gas tank valves there is the small drain, mine had partially bunged up so when I thought it had finished draining the tank was still full. Tap the side ...

Hi Lee, do you mean run the wire forward then back via the bottom of the dash heater?
