Re: DLS ignition unit musings
Yep, that's all resistor/capacitor based timing. I'm not skilled enough to reverse engineer that in any reasonable amount of time, so modifying it is out of the picture really. The scope traces are interesting, it's adding a lot of timing when the RPMs are low. Lets say the window in which these wor...

Re: DLS ignition unit musings
Ayup Ian! seen your email. It's my understanding that this just tweaks the ignition timing to help with the idle. Below the target RPM it'll advance the timing a bit, just to try and add a small amount of "closed loop" to the system for a more stable idle. That way you can live with a litt...

Re: 2.1 petrol dj engine need replacing
If you're having to pay someone to install a 2nd hand replacement engine then you're vanishingly unlikely to see that money back in the sale price of the van. And then there's the risk - if your replacement engine is no good, you'll still owe the garage ~10 hours labour for fitting it, and you'll st...

Re: Injector thread broken off on cylinder head (engine). What now?
There are only three or four threads left. This might be enough to gently thread a new injector into as a short term fix (to get you home, but no more) but it's not enough to properly hold the injector with full torque.
Realistically, you need to replace the cylinder head.

Re: Temp sensor retaining clip hell(p)
Bit late now, But if you have issues with these sensors, first pop the O ring out and make sure the sensor clips in without it. Make sure there's no sealant or crap in the hole, have a good feel around. Then grease the O ring, and grease the hole too, give it a good smear about. Vaseline is probably...

Re: Tips needed on painting front bumper
It'll be fine on top of the paint that is there, just sand it back to remove anything loose. The amount of time you spend prepping will determine the quality of the finish. If you just want to spruce them up a bit then keying the old paint stuff up with coarse scotchbrite and wiping down with degrea...

Re: Tips needed on painting front bumper
Hammerite was never very good, and nowadays (since it was reformulated) it is an absolutely terrible product. Coverage, finish and longevity are all very poor. You definitely want to be spraying something on to get a passably OE finish. There are a lot of different types of Rustoleum paints for vari...

Re: All Terrain Tyres
You could fit bigger but the DG won't have the balls to push anything much taller along, especially with the weight in a camper.

Re: Upgrading fridge to electric
As I understand it, electric fridges will run your leisure battery down to around half in a weekend. I assume for a longer trip you should have EHU or solar panels? Depends on your battery, fridge and the ambient conditions of course, but assuming you have a smallish lead acid leisure battery and i...

Re: Which gearbox.
AAP is a 5 speed; you can use it with the 4 speed linkage but it will be like driving a Syncro, you'll have to go under the gate to get 1st gear and do the side to side thing when going from 1st to 2nd, its not an issue on a Syncro cos we only really use G when off road and don't often change up to...

Re: Which gearbox.
AAG has the power to push a taller gearbox along, so an AAP or something similar (from a 2.1) is fine. Unless your van is especially heavy, the taller the better.

No, it should be easy to blow down.
Are you sure you don't have the pipes mixed up? if you blow down the feed pipe, the fuel pump will stop any reverse flow

Re: Aircooled to WBX - heating system
Loads of watercooled LHD vans with electric PAS, the motor shouldn't foul if it's a commercially sold kit.
If it does foul then it's probably a DIY install which would worry me.

Surely you mean 215/65?
If so, start with the same tyre pressures as the 205 carat tyres (2.1 bar front, 2.8 bar rear) and adjust upwards to suit the load of your westy
