Re: Sealant On New Water Jacket Seal? Updated 2/7/25
Water jacket is changed and engine refitted, all went well with no major problems and so far the seal is dry, and no leaks from pushrod tubes etc. Annoyingly I have a small weep from the O ring on the metal water pipe that goes into the thermostat housing (old style cooling system). I fitted a new O...

Re: Oil pump removal with pulley fitted?? Updated 2/7/25
Thought I would update this thread as to what I ended up doing. Whilst I could undo the pulley bolt, I couldn't remove the pulley and didn't want to damage it. So I removed the cover and changed the cover gasket and the 4 sealing nuts, thankfully this seems to have cured my small leak so that is a g...

Re: Oil pump removal with pulley fitted??
Thanks for your reply silverbullet. I can remove the coolant pipe from behind the pulley on my engine and have done so whilst doing the coolant jacket seal. If the oil pump is too deep to get out with the pulley on then I think I’ll just replace the cover gasket and the nuts and hope that does it. I...

Oil pump removal with pulley fitted?? Updated 2/7/25
Sorry for all the questions but can the oil pump on a DG engine be removed without removing the crankshaft pulley? I was going to change the gaskets but my pulley is tight on the crank and I don’t want to damage it trying to remove it. I could just do the cover gasket and new nuts but will be annoye...

Sealant On New Water Jacket Seal? Updated 2/7/25
Evening all
I’ll soon be fitting my new water jacket seal and was wondering, do I put the sealant on both sides of the new seal or just on the cylinder head side?
Thanks in advance for any help given
Andy

Re: Which gasket set for 1.9dg top end rebuild
Thanks gents
I will definitely be buying a top end set as will need all the gaskets plus a few extras as I am running a DG with early cooling system so different thermostat housing etc.

Which gasket set for 1.9dg top end rebuild
Evening all Is there a preferred gasket set for a top end rebuild. VW Heritage do Victor Reinz and Just Kampers do Elring, both are the same price but wondered if there is any difference in quality between the two? I will try to add a picture of my knackered water jacket seal which needs replacing h...

Are DF and DG engine bottom ends the same?
Evening Do DF and DG engines share the same bottom ends please? The reason for asking is I replaced the original DF engine in my van with a used DG because it had leaking water jacket seals. The DG engines power is much better but it has always been a bit noisy and does use a little bit of oil, not ...

DG Carb Wiring When In DF van?
Hi all I know this has been covered quite a bit but I just want to clarify if it is ok to run the pierburg carb heater by splicing into the manifold heater wire? I hope this will then be correctly running off the timer relay and then the stop solenoid and the choke on the original permanent feed as ...

Help needed with DF to DG engine change
Evening, I am currently swapping my DF engine to a DG engine and it looks like I need to change the throttle cable as my old one has a solid piece at the end which won’t fit the pierburg carb.
Is this correct or has anyone done this and got any advice please?
Thanks in advance. Andy.
