Re: late sliding door onto older bus - help

Thanks for that but It looks like I've got no choice! unless someone can tell me where I can get a early slider for less than the cost of my left arm. I've spent a while trawling old posts and found a couple of ways of doing it. I can get the middle rail and catch off of an 86 for free and can cut o...

the slider is not interchangable without some modification
the tail gate has a different lock type but fits

I'd like a second opinon on the tail gate

does anyone know what modifications are required to a late slider to make it fit it to an older van?

Re: late sliding door onto older bus - help

I popped in and had a look, the old slider doesn't fit in the newer door. I need to find out if a new slider will work on an old bus or if I can make an adaptor up. OR are the doors truly not swappable. I know the door handles are different - but then i've got a what looks like a bay handle on my ol...

late sliding door onto older bus - help

Hi I've got an '84 bus with a badly damaged sliding door and a good condition late sliding door.
what do i have to do to get the late slider to fit?? Paint shop have just told me the new door won't sit flush out at the back, i haven't seen it for myself yet.
Any advise much appreciated.
Thanks

Re: GTi Exhaust photos attached

I think you'll struggle without the harness, it took me a day to figure out the wiring with a harness. I had a copy of the autodata cdrom too which was most useful. If you use a diesel bellhousing the engine is laid over at about 50 degrees that's the way the bolt holes lineup and as you thought vw ...

Re: GTi Exhaust photos attached

I would go for a 1.8 digifant. It's a very simple system and very easy to maintain. I ran with the injection pump alone for a couple of years with no problems. I only put a priming pump on because the golfs all had lift pumps in their tanks so I thought it would be good to mimic this - for reliabili...

Re: GTi Exhaust photos attached

I believe some of the inlet manifolds are bigger than others, which is why some people have to cut and weld the chassis and some getaway with hitting it hard with a hammer.
forgot to say 2.0 litre GTi can be used but you have to either use or get around the ECU immobiliser.

Re: GTi Exhaust photos attached

Wot technohippy said :) a 1.8 GTi has 105hp the original WBX was something like 60hp, you get a better mpg too. I swapped mine cos I didn't want to fork out a fortune on a replacement WBX, did all the work myself except for the exhaust connection pipe. Anyone considering the conversion should read t...

Re: rear number plate hatch

I've often thought it would be a good idea to stick a solenoid lock on it and couple it to the central locking. I might get round to it next decade

Re: Rear park sensors..

If you install sensors into a steel bumper and they give false alerts try filing the hole to make the fit a bit looser, did this on mine and they now work fine. Maplin do good units

Re: adding alcohol to tank to get rid of water?

I've done it, did a quick 5 mile trip and no side effects, exhaust looked steamy for a while whilst idling but then cleared. I guess I'll have to do a weeks driving before I can tell if it's been completely succesful.

Re: adding alcohol to tank to get rid of water?

I've had a chat with some of the chemists at work and it should work fine. I've read that In colder countries they have summer fuel and winter fuel and that the winter fuel is gasoline with alcohol added purely to stop water condensing in the tank and freezing in the fuel lines. I've found MSDS' for...
