Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give them a call.
I believe the ducting cases are mag alloy because:
the local engineering workshop believed they were and has had experience of type 1 stuff
the weight of the ducting castings is low when compared with the crankcases which are 'normal' aluminium.

Help finding a company that can weld magnesium alloy
Hi, The air ducting cases on my 2.0l engine need welding. I understand they are made from magnesium alloy and I haven’t found anyone local (Crewe) that can do the job. :( Does anyone know of a place in the North West (or further afield if necessary) where I can get the job done? Thanks for your help...

2.0l CU camshaft bearings - are they correct.
I'm putting together my 2.0l CU engine. The camshaft bearings supplied by VW Heritage consist of six bearing shells, with one having a flanged thrust bearing. i.e. the opposite side is the same as the other 4 bearing halves. The cases are machined for both sides to have a flanged thrust bearing. Is ...

2.0l air cooled Crankcase Bolt Spacer Things!
Hi, I'm rebuilding an 1981 2.0l (CU engine) air cooled engine. I split the crankcases and found the 6 main bolts had plastic spacers which aided the alignment of the two crankcase halves (I guess that is the purpose). Not sure what they are called but I need to replace them. I have photographed one:...

Re: Anyone know a good upholstery company in the North West
In the end I've left my precious seat parts with a local company (J.B.H. Coach Trimmers, 01270 842123). They are literally less than a mile from me. They did a neighbours T2 - very nice job. I have an early Westy with a full width R&R seat - see http://www.westfaliat3.info/html/westfalia_t3_joke...

Re: Anyone know a good upholstery company in the North West
Thanks chaps for your suggestions. I live near Crewe so both are a similar distance. I'll give both of them a ring and see what they say. Many thanks.

Anyone know a good upholstery company in the North West
Hi, I’ve bought some fabric from Günzel (Westfalia Van Dyke) and I’m looking for a company in the North West to undertake some basic upholstery work: • R&R bed seat covers • Seat cushions covers with zips • Fit the pre-made front seat covers with some modification to give a better fit Can anyone...

Re: Correct Brake Pipe Length
The length of the brake pipes supplied was 45cms. JK has stated that they have contacted Automec (the manufacturer) who is still adament the correct length for early vans is 45cms. The good news is Automec has agreed to send replacement pipes of 54cms in length, which will get my van back on the roa...

Re: Correct Brake Pipe Length
Thanks for your quick reply. I will hold my ground with the supplier. But, after being so unhelpful, I will not use them again. What I will say is that there appears to be a batch of Automec copper pipe sets that have the wrong length pipes, so I suggest people check before buying.

Correct Brake Pipe Length
I've just bought a copper brake pipe set for my 1981 T25. When it came to fitting the pipe between the rear brake cylinder (at the back of the brake drum) and the flexible hose mounting point, it was short by 8 cms or so. The supplier has told me that there are two types of braking system for the T2...
